About Catastrophe Club

Catastrophe Club is a free film and discussion event organised by Hackney Palestine Solidarity Campaign. For upcoming events click here.

Catastrophe Club is held on the last Tuesday of the month at Passing Clouds,  1 Richmond Road, Dalston E8 4AA, just off Kingsland Road, next to the Haggerston Pub.   Doors open from 7.00,  film/event start at 7.30.  Middle Eastern food available at the bar. Everyone welcome!

The films we show cover broad range of approaches whether first-person documentary, archive compilation or narrative fiction, and often touch on cultural, social and political aspects of Palestinian experience as well as the wider realities of the region. To date we  have hosted some wonderful guest speakers to lead discussions and address audience questions on some key themes relating to social justice, film and Palestinian culture. We aim for these evenings to be inspiring, informative and enjoyable, set in the sociable Passing Clouds venue.

The name? Our event is named after the Nakba (‘Catastrophe’) in Palestine between 1947-49 during which time hundreds of thousands of Palestinian men women and children were driven out and then prevented from returning to their homes and lands by the newly founded state of Israel, in violation of International Law.
